 I think everyone is going to post about St. Patrick's Day today, but that doesn't mean I can't, too!

I think that I have an extra amount of cred on the subject, too, considering I am a third-generation Irish-American. Today is a day that makes me really, really proud to be 100% Irish.

Well okay, technically, I am something like 87.5% Irish. The only great-grandparent NOT of Irish heritage or actually Irish-born is the one, get this, DAR line of our family.

What is the DAR, you ask? 

The DAR is "a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children." It stands for Daughters of the American Revolution.

You might have heard of it if you were a Gilmore Girls watcher, as my friend Laura pointed out on Twitter :) Emily and Rory were both members and hosted regular meetings.

And so why do I count? I have one line of my family that directly ties back to a patriot in the American Revolution.

I think it's awesome that we have such a close tie in our family to the early days of our country. I am actually interested in learning more about the organization and what it could  mean for me.

But today, on St. Patrick's Day, I will proclaim with the other 87.5% of my freckled, blue-eyed and pale-skinned body that I am proud to be an Irish girl :)
